Day 3 was mostly spent shopping. We went to an amazing mall, like one you would find in Las Vegas. It was huge and expensive. We also found a great ceramic store called Fenix which sells beautiful African pottery. We bought many souveniors there. That night we ate at our favorite spot near our house right on the beach. It is very windy in Cape Town so kite surfing is a big sport here. It is fun to watch now fast they go and how high they can get up in the air.

The Townships
In the 1960's during the aparteid in South Africa the government seperated the people according to color. Anyone who is not white they call blacks and colored people. They were all moved out of the cities and into areas called townships. Apparently the government felt that people of different races should not live together. Today there are areas all over South Africa that look like this:
Some of the townships are nicer than others, but all are extremely small. The government has come in and replaced many of the shacks but none of them are any bigger than 8'x10'
Day 4 was my dad's 69th birthday (he says this is his last one, not because he in going to die but because he is not counting anymore). It was a lazy morning spent at the beach. We laid out most of the morning reading and collecting shells. Apparently our skin has not seen the sun for awhile so we all were sunburned when we left.
That evening we went to Stellenbauch which is full of vineyards and is the equivalent to Napa Valley in the U.S. It is beautiful! We shopped a little more and had a delicous birthday dinner at a Greek restaurant there. Yum!!!
That night we went home and played cards. We let my dad win since it was his birthday.
Happy last birthday Daddy!!!
