I mean HATED to read!
We tried everything from bribes and threats but every night it was like pulling teeth to get him to do his required 15-20 minutes of reading for school. Until Ryan stumbled upon the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series and became obsessed. He has read all of the books multiple times. Now Ryan is a reader and I am happy to say after years of struggling reads at grade level. When the 3rd book came out this January we were at Tattered Cover the day it came out. They told us that Jeff Kinney was coming to the store in February so we marked our calendars weeks in advice. On the day of the signing we went at 3:15 in the afternoon to wait in line (the signing began at 6:00).
WE WERE THE FIRST IN LINE!!!

We made ourselves at home by bringing together some comfy chairs from around the store. Ryan and Katelyn played with some friends from school in the children's section, while 2 other mom's and I sat and talked, ate snacks and caught up on our tabliods as we waited.More and more people started coming...
At about 5:30 Jeff Kinney's brothers came out and talked to the boys for awhile. They told them what parts of the book were inspired by actual events from their childhood. This is one of the brothers taking a picture of the crowd.

At 6:00 Jeff came out and signed all of Ryan's books.
We were out of there at 6:05. The paper reported that there ended up being over 1200 kids there that night. The second largest crowd he has ever had. VERY EXCITING!!!

Kaleb LOVES these books as well. What a good mom you are to sit around for that long so that Ryan could have this experience. I'm sure he'll never forget it!
Alexis loves these books too although fortunately for me she LOVES to read and it is not uncommon to find her reading instead of watching TV...don't know if its genetics or what...we will have to see how Eli turns out!
